Knights Outright Winners

Round 9, and this game became a very important one given how close the competition is with it being 6 points difference between 2nd place and 7th place.

Coming up against Wyndham Vale, we knew that it would be a tough match up especially looking at previous match ups over the years and them having the upper hand. A great effort from our boys after winning the toss and choosing to bat we managed 211 from 60 overs. Starring with the bat was Adam Beavis (57) and Josh Lanciana (45*) and Brandon Mifsud (32). Not only were we able to win first innings points after bowling Wyndham Vale out for 96, but we enforced the follow on and after a superb start by both Parsanjeet Malik and Vishal Attan we had them 6/9 after 7 overs. From there Wyndham Vale could only manage a total of 67 for the 2nd innings given our 1XI 10 points for the round. Starring with the ball was for the match was Matthew Leach (5/21), Vishal Attan (5/28), Parsanjeet Malik (3/25).

With other teams in the top 4 playing one another meant we were able to jump up into 3rd position, 3 points behind Burnside Springs who we face in a Saturday/Sunday game this weekend which will determine a potential 2nd position finish with two matches left for the season. Donnybrook Cricket Club are on top of the ladder a game and a half clear.

Coach Reg Mustafa said “We are happy to be where we are after losing our first two games of the season and we were able to find a balance in our team which bought out a brand of cricket that suits us. It will be a test these next two games with Burnside Springs this week and Sunshine YCW (2nd and 4th respectively) but we are up for the challenge. Our best cricket is yet to come and believe we are peaking at the right time. We look forward to the challenge”.

This Saturday 10th February 2024 we will be hosting an afternoon tea for our ladies day with nibblies, coffee/tea, a mocktail drink for those in attendance all on us. Come down and support the first XI as they venture to lock in finals. Our 2XI will be playing Burnside Springs away @ Keilor Park Recreational Reserve (Oval 2) from 1pm.
